Lack of proper tools for girls to manage their periods has been linked to school absenteeism. This includes: girls not having access to sanitary hygiene in terms of access to proper sanitary towels, poor school water,sanitation and hygiene facilities, menstrual pain and fear of peers knowing about one’s menstrual status. It is therefore important that the management of menstruation is school age girls is comprehensive and goes beyond the distribution of sanitary towels. This involves ensuring that girls have access to useful reproductive health information to destigmatize periods, clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities and proper tools to manage period pains.
